Terms of Service
Last updated: August 29, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of CoachMate (the "Service"), an online workspace for chess coaches to run lessons and tournaments. By creating an account, accepting an invitation, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Who may use the Service
Account holders ("coaches" or "teachers") must be adults able to form a binding contract. Coaches invite their students to join through a link; students participate under the coach's account and supervision.
If a student is a minor, the coach is responsible for obtaining any consent required from the student's parent or legal guardian before inviting them, and for ensuring the student's use is appropriate and supervised. The Service is not directed to children acting on their own.
2. Plans and billing
The Service offers a free plan and a paid subscription (CoachMate Solo). What each plan includes is described in the Service and may evolve; features may be added, modified, or removed at any time.
Paid subscriptions renew automatically for successive periods (monthly or yearly, as chosen) until cancelled. Prices and applicable taxes are shown before you subscribe, and you will be notified before any price change applies to you.
A paid plan may include a free trial. If you cancel during the trial, you are not charged and you keep access for the remainder of the trial.
Cancellation. You can cancel at any time from Settings → Billing. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for: your plan stays fully active until that date, and no further amount is charged. We do not offer immediate cancellation, because it would end a period you have already paid for.
No refunds. Except where refunds are required by mandatory law, amounts already paid are non-refundable, in whole or in part. This includes unused time in the current period, periods left unused after you cancel, and time during which you did not use the Service. We do not pro-rate.
3. Accounts and security
You may create your account with an email address and password (we may ask you to confirm your email address) or by signing in with Google. Creating an account requires accepting these Terms; we keep a record of that acceptance.
You are responsible for the activity under your account and for keeping your credentials and invite links confidential. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorized use. You are responsible for the conduct of students you invite.
We send transactional emails needed to operate the Service (such as confirmations, invitations, and lesson recaps). We send product news and tips only if you opted in, and you can withdraw that consent at any time.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the Service. In particular, you and your students will not:
- harass, bully, threaten, or harm anyone, including on video or in chat;
- share content that is unlawful, hateful, sexually explicit, or otherwise inappropriate — especially given that minors use the Service;
- attempt to access accounts, games, or data that are not yours;
- disrupt, overload, reverse-engineer, or circumvent the security of the Service;
- use the Service to break any applicable law.
5. Live video and audio
Lessons and tournaments may use real-time video and audio. Participants control their own camera and microphone; a coach may require cameras for a tournament and may mute or disable a student's microphone or camera for moderation. By joining a room with your camera or microphone on, you consent to other participants in that room seeing and hearing your live stream. Do not record other participants without their (or their guardian's) consent and as permitted by law.
6. Coach responsibilities
Coaches decide which students to add and what information (such as a display name and optional parent contact email) to enter. Coaches represent that they have the right to provide that information and to invite each student, and that they will handle their students and any guardians' information responsibly.
7. Content and intellectual property
The Service, including its software, design, and the curated library of annotated master games, is owned by CoachMate or its licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. You may use the library and tools within the Service to teach; you may not redistribute or resell them as a standalone product.
You retain ownership of content you create (such as lesson notes and games played). You grant us a limited license to host, process, and display that content as needed to operate the Service.
8. Payments
Payments for paid plans are processed by our third-party payment provider, Dodo Payments. Their terms and privacy practices apply to the payment itself; we do not store full payment-card details.
Dodo Payments acts as merchant of record for these transactions and appears on your statement. Billing questions, invoices, and payment-method changes are handled from Settings → Billing; refund policy is as described in section 2.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, CoachMate will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service.
11. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if these Terms are violated or if needed to protect users or the Service. You may request deletion of your account and associated data (see the Privacy Policy).
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. When we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify account holders. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Peru, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
